Refrigerated Container Monitoring & Tracking
In order to track and monitor reefer containers, iControl implements its integrated product solution, with a twist.
Reefer containers differ from dry containers in that it is not only important that they get from point A to B quickly and safely, but that the contents inside the container are temperature controlled. While most reefers have external PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) built-in that log the temperatures inside the reefer, the interfaces to the PLCs can be proprietary, lack real-time communications support, and monitor only one area of the reefer which may not present a representative picture of the temperature throughout the reefer.
iControl's MATTS system is extended to include an inside-the-box temperature sensor and radio called the iCHIME. Several iCHIMEs can be quickly mounted in different locations throughout the inside of the reefer. Temperature data is transmitted through the reefer to an iTAG on the outside of the container. The iTAG correlates data and provides location information. Data is transmitted via either the iTAGs embedded WAN modem or via the iTAGs radio link to an iGATE. The temperature data is upload to the iVIEW server that provides trend analysis, real-time alerts, and tracking information.

iControl Incorporated participated in a pilot program with Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT), in which iControl demonstrated its capabilities in the reefer monitoring and tracking industry. iControl's iCHIME and iTAG tracked and monitored a dry cargo container and refrigerated container from the Port of Los Angeles to the Port of Tokyo.
