Remote Systems into Web Appliances
(San Jose, CA - June 30, 2000) iControl, Inc., the leader in web-based remote data acquisition and control, today introduced a full suite of patent-pending products that provide businesses with "anytime, anywhere" secure access to their remote systems. Whether monitoring oil and gas production, utility delivery, spacecraft telemetry, traffic patterns, or controlling manufacturing processes, iControl offers a subscription-based service that increases productivity and eliminates upfront "barrier-to-entry" costs.
The new product line consists of SmartIO data acquisition and control units, iGATE Internet protocol translators, and iVIEW web-based applications. iControl bundles the products into a subscription-based service called SmartIO LIVE! providing customers with a tailor-made solution.
SmartIO devices are flexible, modular, robust units with low-power and low-maintenance requirements that can be used in the harshest of operating environments. Loaded with I/O (analog, discrete, serial) and onboard processing, customers can both monitor and control their remote equipment. The bi-directional flow of information can be sent across wireless (RF, cellular) or hard-wired (analog phone lines, ethernet) media.
iGATE acts as both a protocol translator and a repeater enabling communications between the SmartIO devices and the iVIEW website. iGATE units are used to extend the reach of SmartIO devices into very remote areas that do not have cellular or analog coverage.
iVIEW is a secure website that allows customers 24x7 access to their remote equipment. The powerful online tools include graphical displays for quick analysis of trends and events, a full-featured database, online account setup and administration, and standard interfaces for support of third party tools.
SmartIO LIVE! offers companies a cost-effective alternative to the traditional approaches of remote monitoring. Until now, businesses have had to either 1) employ around-the-clock monitoring staff, 2) accept downtime of mission critical equipment, or 3) absorb high upfront costs of adopting new technologies. SmartIO LIVE! spreads out the cost of the bundled products, infrastructure services, and maintenance through subscription-based plans.
