iControl's iGATE Product Connects Remote Systems to the Internet Using
Novatel Wireless' Expedite™ Embedded Modem
(San Jose, CA - Aug. 18, 2000) iControl, Inc., the leader in remote control and data acquisition via the Internet, today announced the selection of the Novatel Wireless Expedite™ Embedded Modem for use in its iGATE Internet Portal. Expedite uses the Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) protocol which provides iGATE with an "always on" link to the Internet.
iGATE is the keystone to iControl's web-enabling products and services. As a protocol translator, iGATE connects iControl's data acquisition and control units (SmartIO) to its secure webserver (iVIEW). iGATE's modular design supports a wide-range of applications by providing customers with a choice of hardline analog, cellular analog, or CDPD modems for their Internet connectivity.
iControl's Vice President of Engineering, Tom J. Inokuchi, stated, "Our IP modem requirements included low-power consumption, small form factor, high reliability, and remote programmability. Expedite has not only exceeded these requirements, but has also provided iGATE with a migration path of increasing functionality and flexibility. Expedite offers a superior API that facilitates rapid development and deployment of our iGATE product."
“iControl’s iGate product combined with the Expedite modem gives businesses 24x7, real-time access to data from remote equipment,” said Luke St. James, director of embedded products for Novatel Wireless. “Having real-time access to data increases productivity and lowers costs. We are excited to be part of this remote monitoring solution.”
