GenSet Tracking and Monitoring

iControl began a commercial pilot program in May 2006 to track and monitor 50 generator sets as they travelled throughout the United States via rail and truck. The technology used in the test was based upon iControl's DHS MATTS container tracking and communications system. MATTS was modified in order to connect to the gensets control box to obtain data from fuel sensors, battery, run switch, and oil pressure.

The MATTS tag included an embedded WAN modem so data could be uploaded throughout all transit phases. Onboard software was configured to scan sensor data every minute and detect motion every 5 minutes. The data was logged and uploaded every 15 minutes if an alert or tracking condition was set. Otherwise, the units reported in once per hour.
